I'd rather see Johnson up against a fast winger than Coufal. He can defend. But he'sike a 1980s full back, seems largely uncomfortable over the half way line

Johnson is a good defender but his passing and decision making has never been great.

Good utilty player probably not who we want starting in any of the back line positions if we want to play out more in the future. Or attack with fullbacks.

Can we agree that Johnson is pretty rubbish ?

We are not allowed to critique cos he's one of our own, but come on, he can't pass 5 yards without giving it away

I just find it amazing how often Paqueta mis controls the ball - even under no pressure or with anyone around him.

He’s either total dog shit or really switched off a lot of the time.

Like he’s not even expecting a ball to come to him.

I’m with absolutely everything you say there until you say his settling in period is coming to an end.
I’m not saying for one minute he’s as good but just an example, I bet you wouldn’t find a rent boy on the planet that wished they hadn’t given De Bruyne time to settle considering he’s probably the best player in the world right now

Be nice if the papers made clear who was doing the chair and flare throwing

On Paqueta

We had a smaller lineup, we needed to keep the ball, he made 27/28 passes (if you want a number) helped us control the game, with no danger at our end.

Came off, things were not awful but a bit worse.

Not spectacular but another chance to play with the team and make a contribution.

Had to laugh at the stadium announcer saying at full time that we only need 1 point to be ‘champions of the group’.

Who the fuck talks like that?

I’ll be honest, I don’t really give a shit about Paqueta’s numbers. He’s technically excellent, and its up to us to make the best use of him, not the other way around. He’s currently being asked to play as a number 10 and spends much of the time watching the ball sail over his head, so he isn’t going to get great stats. In fact, every single player who has played number 10 while we’ve played this way has looked ordinary – and then they’ve all looked much better from a deeper central starting position.

Still, if Scamacca had had his finishing boots & head on on Sunday, those who care about statistics would be happy as well.

“Settled and solid defence”

Our defence was less settled than the hokey kokey last night.

Johnson playing in a 3
Ogbonna off
Dawson on
Cresswell off
Declan on left side of a 3
Dawson off
Soucek on
Declan centre of the 3
Emerson left side of the 3

It was possibly the most unsettled defence inclusive of players playing out of position that I’ve ever seen.

Spot on about the twat DJ. Someone needs to slap him one.

Maybe in future fans can be encouraged to lob the broken seats at him instead of each other?

So long as we are winning I will get joy out of it. Lets see how the next few games go.

I think most are on the same page with Paqueta, yes he's talented, yes it's good to see the odd back heel, controlling the ball with his backside etc, but for 50 mil you clearly want to see him influencing a game a lot more, getting on the ball, keeping the ball, dictating play, driving into the box, assisting and scoring, etc. I assume that is why we bought him? ''Hopefully'' that will come soon.

Agree with BRANDED that others will come out a bit more and try a few more things with him alongside, I noticed it towards the end of the Wolves game when Fornals was doing a few little things that you don't normally see, unless I imagined it!

Not sure too much can or should be read into Paqueta last night. We were clearly coasting and he was probably told to just take it easy and play for for 45 mins. Also seemed to be in a sort of false 9 position which wouldn't be familiar for him.

I do agree though that as well as the great assists and flashes we've seen so far, that i would like to see him exert a bit more of an overall influence on some games. That will come, I am sure. The Premier league is not an easy one to immediately crack.

Indeed. Good players make other players better. That's not in doubt. He's a very talented lad. I just hope he starts notching the numbers we need aswell.

From the stands the influence of Paquetta seemed palpable. It looks like every player is willing to do the slightly less predictable and that comes from his influence. It was the most enjoyable first half of footy I've seen in a while.

I agree with you about Pacqueta.

Against Fulham (I watched in pub) I said that right now I am struggling with him a bit. I get that he is still settling and picking up the pace of the PL and how we play. But, for me, his key numbers aren't good enough. That's key passes, assists goals. Yes, he has undoubted ability, and everyone was creaming their knickers when he took that ball out of the air cross legged against Anderlecht in the away leg. But, for a player that cost £50 million (and a bit more) and of his status. I'm expecting him to be influencing games much more.

Last night you'd expect him to just be running the show but he did very little. I'm not on the guys back and I'm not saying he's shit or a waste of money. But his settling / honeymoon period is coming to an end and we are now entering into the season proper.

I said I think a proper conversation can be had after 15 - 20 games as to how influential he is and will be. Potentially we have a huge player on our hands but, right now, I'm seeing more style over substance. Hopefully he can start to offer both on a regular level.
